During a thrid-quarter profits conference call, Tesla CEO Elon Musk hinted that the Model S will be getting some new variants sometime in the new year.
“There are a few other variants of the Model S that we’ll come out with next year that I think are going to be pretty exciting, in addition to, of course, really getting into the Model X and starting the initial design work of the third-generation mass market vehicle,” said Musk.
What we do know is that different sized battery packs are coming to Model S which will spawn three variants: 40-, 60- and 85-kWh. What remains to be seen is what the new variants will be. A drop-top variant is possible, as well as an all-wheel drive version of the Model S. It could go as far as introducing new body styles to the platform, such as a wagon, but that is just speculation.
