Toyota GT 86 Commercial Banned in England

Toyota GT 86 Commercial Banned in England

A commercial for the Toyota GT 86 that shows a man escaping from police has been banned in the UK for condoning reckless and dangerous driving.

The Advertising Standards Authority ruled that “the ad must not appear again in its current form. We told Toyota not to portray speed or driving behaviour in a way that might encourage motorists to drive irresponsibly in future.”

The ad portrays a bleak world with total government control that the main character breaks free of by driving in his GT 86. The ASA recieved two complaints from viewers, which was apparently enough to get the commercials pulled.

Toyota argued that the ad is set in an artifical digital world, making it impossible to emulate, but that was not enough for the ASA.
