Announced today at the 2012 LA Auto Show, Volkswagen will discontinue the Eos, and may bring the Golf Cabriolet to our shores to fill the gap.
At a press conference, VW head of design Klaus Bischoff said, “the Eos will not be prolonged when it comes off the market. Retractable hardtops are disappearing from the market now, and to be honest that’s not something I mind.”
A larger, full-size four-seat convertible is apparently in the works at Volkswagen, but the introduction of the Golf Cabriolet seems more likely than a new model all together.
Bischoff did not confirm exactly when the Eos will quit production. A 2013 model has already been announced, so it likely won’t be for at least a year. He also mentioned his desire to bring the Golf Cabriolet, and Golf GTI Cabriolet here to the States.
