Five-Point Inspection: 2013 Lexus GS450h

2. A Hybrid that hustles

The Lexus approach to hybrid technology has long been to add power while retaining reasonable fuel economy. It won’t get your heart pumping quite like a twin-turbo V8 in the BMW 550i, but with 338 hp and a 0-60 time of just 5.6 seconds this hybrid can hustle.

It’s not just straight-line speed that impresses either. While a touch hefty, the drive mode selector firms up the car’s throttle response and speeds up shift times in Sport mode, while a new Sport+ version (included in the Luxury and F Sport packages) adds tighter steering, a stiffer setting to the adaptive dampers and limited intrusion from the stability control for real fun.

Heck, we even took it to the track and surprised more than a few lap day heroes. It’s not like we ever caught a GT3 or anything, but he didn’t get away from us as fast as you’d think.
