Referred to as the baby CLS, the CLA shares it platform and most of its look with the new A-Class, except for the rear end, which borrows heavily from the CLS. It also takes cues from the Concept Style Coupe, which the German brand released earlier this year as a foreshadowing of upcoming cars. While the base model will be front-wheel drive, the CLA is expected offer all-wheel drive when the CLA45 AMG variant arrives.
Engine options are likely to be shared with the A-Class, with 1.6- and 1.8-liter gasoline engines being available, ranging from 107 to 211 horsepower. Autoblog.nl claims that there will be four variants of the CLA: CLA 180 with 122 hp, CLA 200 with 156 hp, and CLA 250 with 211 hp. A diesel engine will also be available, though it will probably not be offered in the U.S. Transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual (a rarity for Mercedes) as well as the brand’s new 7-speed dual clutch automatic.
Interior photos reveal that the CLA also shares its insides with the A-Class, save some small details. Tech will include Mercedes’ iPhone support that offers Siri connectivity, COMAND infotainment, and Mercedes’ “pre-safe” collision avoidance system.
The CLA45 AMG version is likely to use the same engine as the A45 AMG, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder packing 325 hp.
