Mercedes Recalls 5,800 Vehicles over Fire Risk

Mercedes-Benz will recall a slew of vehicles, all for the same faulty fuel filter flange that may crack, causing a fuel leak and a possible fire.

The recall affects the GLK350, C300, CL550, CL63, E350, S400, S550, and S63 models, built between April 18, 2011, and July 12, 2011.

The issue stems from an irregularity during the the molding process, which left some of the fuel filter flanges too thin, making them susceptible to cracking when operating at high-heat levels.

Mercedes will contact affected customers and replace the fuel filter free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in January, 2013. For information, owners may contact Mercedes-Benz at (800) 367-6372.
