General Motors has just finished up unveiling its new trucks and Ford is looking to steal away some of the thunder at next year’s Detroit Auto Show by giving everyone a peek at its next-generation F-150.
Two people familiar with Ford’s plans have reported to Reuters that the American automaker will be heading to Detroit with a teaser of the 2015 F-150, which should be launching in the fall of 2014.
The next-generation F-150 will be crucial to Ford’s portfolio, given that its F-series has been America’s best-selling vehicle for 30 years. With its new F-150, the automaker is hoping to lighten the load by 700 to 750 pounds thanks to a generous use of aluminum and a redesign of its brakes and axles. The prototype heading to the Detroit Auto Show should give a good preview of the pickup’s new design.
