Although reports have spoken of its demise, the Audi R8 E-Tron may still come to fruition, though only in very limited quantities.
Late last year, news broke that Audi had placed the project on hold and put it under review. At the time, it seemed like it was destined to be discontinued fully, but that may not be the case anymore.
“The R8 E-Tron project may still be continued in a very small volume of cars that has yet to be decided. What has been decided is that it will not be executed on a large scale production basis,” Mark Dahncke, product and motorsports communications manager for Audi of America told AutoblogGreen.
Audi also cancelled plans for its A2 E-tron electric car recently, suggesting the company isn’t counting on electric cars for its future plans.
If the R8 E-tron does make it to small scale production, it will come with an electric range of about 150 miles, and it will be able to sprint to 60 mph in less than five seconds.
