Mercedes just announced official pricing for its new CLA compact car, which will start at $29,900.
When the car was officially unveiled during the 2013 Detroit Auto Show earlier this month, the maker promised its heavily stylized new car would ring in around $30,000. Mercedes revealed the starting price in a roundabout way, releasing it at the end of a commercial that will run during the upcoming Super Bowl.
The spot shows a young man about to sign a deal with the devil to get a CLA, until the price of $29,900 is revealed to him, at which point he decides he can buy one himself.
It will be the cheapest vehicle in Mercedes’ American lineup, trying to attract new, and younger buyers to the brand. From launch, the CLA will have a 208 hp turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine with 258 lb-ft of torque. It should be matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The CLA will offer front-wheel drive, along with the option of Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
