Both of Volkswagen’s crossovers – the Tiguan and Touareg (pictured above) – showed up to the 2013 Detroit Auto Show this year wearing the brand’s R-Line package treatment.
If you weren’t already looking for the badges, you might not realize that the cars were really anything different and in most ways they aren’t. The R-Line package doesn’t offer the sort of changes you might assume given its sporty name, but instead offers larger, package-specific wheels. For the Tiguan, that means upgrading to 19-inch alloys and 20-inch versions for the larger Touareg.
The package does bring a stiffened suspension, which with the larger wheels will help the car feel sportier on the road. Both vehicles also get body-colored side skirts and the aforementioned R-Line badging – integrated into the grille for the Tiguan and on the front quarter panel with the Touareg.
Both crossovers also get specially-appointed interiors with special parts like a flat-bottomed steering wheel, paddle shifters, aluminum pedals and more.
If you’re thinking about buying either the Tiguan or the Touareg, but a sportier package is appealing, Volskwagen says the trim will be available in the third quarter of this year.
