Audi has officially revealed its new S3 Sportback, boasting best-in-class performance thanks to a 2.0-liter TFSI engine with 300 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque.
The second-generation S3 Sportback sees an overhauled four-cylinder engine that the German automaker is expecting to get around 34 mpg. When paired with the optional six-speed S tronic transmission, the S3 Sportback hits 62 mph in 5 seconds flat while the six-speed manual transmission clocks in at 5.5 seconds. Top speed will be limited at 155 mph.
The S3 Sportback will be equipped with quattro permanent all-wheel drive with a redesigned multi-plate clutch that will help it accelerate more quickly and safely when exiting a corner. Compared to the previous model, the front axle is 2.05 inches farther forward and the new powerplant is 11 pounds lighter and tilted backwards 12 degrees compared to its predecessor.
Aiding in its sporty handling is new, progressive steering along with the S sport suspension. It will come standard with 18×7.5-inch wheels mated to 225/40/18 low-rolling resistance tires to help reduce fuel consumption. It will also come standard with Audi drive select.
Lastly, the new S3 Sportback weighs in at 3,185 pounds, which is over 154 pounds lighter than the previous model.
Audi is not expected to offer the S3 Sportback in North America, however, this new model does preview an S3 sedan that’s set to arrive later this year.
