The AMG Black Series lineup has done a fantastic job at dominating the German performance scene, a segment that BMW has, for decades, been the dominant force in with its M models.

But the aggressive styling and performance upgrades available on the AMG Black Series models have trumped anything from BMW in recent years, so it looks like BMW is looking to throw a counter punch by adding more M to its M models.

According to a representative of the German automaker in an interview, BMW is looking to offer special M cars in the U.S. that will be like the AMG Black Series. And these won’t just be special models with “exclusive” paint jobs and interior upgrades; BMW will be attaching monikers such as CSL and GTS to them.

BMW did offer a higher-performance GTS version of its current generation M3, though it wasn’t available in North America.
