Chrysler is announcing today that it will add 4,278 Dodge Vipers ranging from the 2003 to 2004 model year to a previous recall affecting the Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee.

The sports cars are fitted with an occupant restraint control module that might cause the car’s air bags and pretensioner to deploy inadvertently. Chrysler said in a press release that it hasn’t received any reports of any inadvertent air bag deployment, but the recall is the result of an investigation by Chrysler and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Owners with affected vehicles will may take their cars to a Chrysler dealer to have a filter installed that will allow the module to properly manage the safety system. That service will be performed free of charge and owners will be contacted directly by Chrysler.
