The four finalists for 2013 World Car of the Year were announced today at the Geneva Motor Show, and they are the Volkswagen Golf, Toyota GT86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ, Mercedes A-Class and the Porsche Boxster/Cayman.
“In the voting for this year’s WCOTY award, we saw a very closely fought race which resulted in not three, but four finalists!” said World Car Awards co-chair, Peter Lyon.
Volkswagen is looking for its second consecutive win, as the VW up! won the 2012 World Car of the Year. To be eligible to be the World Car of the Year, the vehicle must have been for sale on at least two continents during the period beginning January 1, 2012 and ending May 30, 2013.
Aside from the World Car of the Year award there is also World Performance Car, World Green Car, and World Car Design of the Year Awards.
The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, Toyota GT86 and Porsche Boxster will battle to become World Performance Car of the Year, while the Renault Zoe, Tesla Model S and the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid will try and become the World Green Car of the Year.
Lastly, the Jaguar F-Type, Aston Martin Vanquish and Mazda6 are competing against each other for the title of 2013 World Car Design of the Year.
The awards are chosen by a panel of sixty-six top-level automotive journalists from twenty-three countries around the world.
