Attention late-model BMW 335i drivers. Are you looking for a skosh more firepower under your Bimmer’s hood? If so the monks in München have answered your prayers and it comes in the form of the M Performance Power kit.

This factory-backed upgrade boosts the turbocharged straight six’s output from a healthy 300 horsepower to an even more vigorous 320. Cars equipped with an autotragic gearbox gain 32 additional lb-ft of torque. Models with the shift-it-yourself manual only pick up 17.

That extra oomph cuts the car’s zero-to-60 time by 0.2 seconds but arguably it pays bigger dividends at higher speed. Acceleration time from 50 to 75 miles an hour drops by half a second.

Other enhancements include remapped accelerator pedal calibration for more responsive throttle tip-in along with a unique exhaust burble in over-run situations.

The kit includes updated powertrain software or a replacement engine-control unit along with a high-capacity air intake, a snazzy new engine cover as well as rocker-panel decals, which add at least 18 of the 20 extra horsepower provided by the upgrade. (We kid).

The BMW M Performance Power Kit is available for 2012 and newer 335i sedans as well as 335i xDrive (all-wheel-drive) sedans. The upgrade is available from any authorized BMW Center in the United States and starts at a reasonable-sounding $1,100. Installation fees are not included in that price but the company’s four-year/50,000-mile new-vehicle warranty is unaffected by this factory-backed upgrade. From an emissions standpoint it’s legal in all 50 states.
