Audi just announced pricing for the newly improved R8 supercar, which went on sale today.
Pricing starts at $119,150 including a $1,250 delivery charge and the $3,000 gas guzzler tax. That price buys you the V8 model equipped with a manual. The S tronic transmission costs a $9,100 premium and you’ll pay $13,500 for the convertible.
Climbing all the way up to the V10 Plus model, which only comes as a coupe, you’ll pay $174,795 for the manual or $183,895 for the S tronic.
Items bettering the car include a new seven-speed S tronic transmission, which cuts 0.3 seconds off the car’s 0-60 time on the R8 V10 Plus. Equipped with the seven-speed and 5.2-liter V10, the R8 Plus sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and can reach 196 mph.
Audi also updated the car’s styling with LED headlights and optional LED lighting for the engine compartment – although that feature is standard on the v10 model. That model also comes with new carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) on the side scoops and louvers, which are also on the V8, but smaller.
The larger engined model also loses weight over the previous car — 130 lbs to be exact. Audi’s engineers managed that by swapping several body parts for carbon fiber and using carbon ceramic brakes.
Of course, there’s a good chance that’s the only model Tony Stark will be caught driving in Iron Man 3 – which Audi couldn’t resist plugging in its press release.
