Audi Q8 Billed as Range Rover Sport Rival

As part of Audi’s expanding lineup of crossovers and SUVs, the German luxury brand will launch a new flagship people mover targeted squarely at the Range Rover Sport.

Confirmed in a recent interview by Audi R&D boss Wolfgang Dürheimer, the new model will sit atop the SUV range much in the way the A8 does for the brand’s luxury sedans. Styling will be key, with a sloped coupe-like roofline, though overall the Q8 will be noticeably larger than the Q7.

The Q8 will be the VW group’s largest SUV offering. Based on the same platform that will underpin the next Q7, as well as the next-gen Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg, it’s also planned (though not confirmed) to form the basis of SUVs for both the Lamborghini and Bentley brands.

Audi is also rumored to be planning a Q6 model to take on the BMW X6.
