According to reports the new model will be based on the Toyota RAV4 platform and will use a hybrid powertrain similar to that found in the Lexus IS300h and ES300h. Those car’s use a 2.5-liter gasoline 4-cylinder engine mated to a hybrid system that can deliver up to 200 hp and 40 mpg in combined city/highway driving.
Rumors have also suggested the NX will be the first Lexus to use a turbocharged engine.
The NX could mark the launch of a new wave of crossovers from the Toyota luxury division, with additional reports suggesting it could transform either its GX or LX SUVs into a car-based crossover.
