When classic rock band Rush’s “Tom Sawyer” comes on the radio, drummers everywhere can now play along with real tones, thanks to a new product from company Smack Attack turning the average steering wheel into a full drum kit.
Using eight touch-sensitive pads, “Re-Inventing The Wheel” (RITW) allows the driver to drum solo, or play along with his or her favorite tunes, streamed through the car’s stereo using an iPhone app. Each pad can be customized to emit different tones, ranging from regular drums sounds such as a snare drum and kick drum, all the way to the mooing of a cow.
Although it seems as though this device could worsen distracted driving, Smack Attack claims it was invented specifically to reduce distraction while driving. They claim that RITW will help drivers stay alert by providing them with both auditory and tactile stimulation to stave off highway hypnosis at bay.
Buyers interested can have an RITW for about $150.
