10. Subaru BRZ Premium $25,495

010812BRZ17

With a low starting price, the Subaru BRZ offers lots of handling, but little power. Starting at at $25,495, and edging out the Dodge Challenger for the number 10 spot on this list, it features 200-hp from a flat-four boxer engine. The BRZ also has less weight to carry, making it just as potent on the road, and on the track. With its rear-wheel drive layout, the BRZ is all about balance, although who can argue with its great looks? In its base form, the BRZ is great value, but doesn’t have much to offer over the FR-S, except for HID headlights, a touch-screen radio with navigation, and LED daytime running lights.

Maybe it’s a generational thing, but imo coupes are definitely not always better looking than a comparable sedan.  If a car is designed first as a coupe, I think it can look great – take the Genesis coupe, or Camaro, or FR-S.  But where there could be rear doors, I think it looks awful to not put them.  Take the Civic coupe, Altima coupe, or even (hold your breath) an A5 coupe.  I can handle it on convertibles.  But if you want a coupe, buy a car that was designed as such.

I’m curious what other people think.  (I need affirmation!)

  • huwtm

That’s an extremely flawed view. All current coupes, even the ugly Genesis, are purpose designed. Sedan siblings may have similar nose treatments but usually that’s where it ends outside.  Interiors can some times in the dash be to close close to the sedans.

  • MistyGreen

Obviously they have a separate design, that’s not what I’m saying.  I just think that almost all coupes that have a sedan sibling don’t look as good as coupes without the concessions made to have a sedan version.

The only compromise car in that group appears to be the Nissan. To Americanized, just plain ordinary.

God that hyundai elantra coupe is ugly as sin…no way does it belong #2

  • Colum Wood

It’s the concept for the Chevy Tru 140r. I have no idea why it’s on this article. heck, they may never produce it.

  • huwtm

Yeah right – but they should build it. It’s probably the best looking car designed in the US of late. Though it does look Opel?

Is the Cheapest, not the best…

  • SoYntGo4it

Umm you for got about the Scion tC and GTI

  • Soynotgo4it

All their vehicles look Opel What the heck are you talking about.

  • huwtm

That is wrong actually. There is a very different look between US GM cars and Opels. Buick use Opels with that tacky American grill, but the rest Nothing like Opel.

  • The_C_a_t

    Coupes, not hatchbacks.

  • noname

man. the day of the shelby charger, shadow es/CSX, neon rt, and srt4 were great. 26k is too much for a coupe.
