Volkswagen iBeetle Unveiled with Built-in iPhone Dock

Volkswagen has just unveiled a new special edition of its iconic Beetle, dubbed the iBeetle, which features an integrated iPhone dock.

The docking station is located in the center of the Beetle’s dashboard, and when connected, allows all iPhone functions to be controlled through the car. Users can access navigation, make hands-free calls, listen to music and access a variety of apps. A Beetle app is also available for the iPhone, which allows it to connect to the car wirelessly.

Other apps that can be accessed include: ‘Expert,’ which acts as on-board instrumentation and shows g forces, oil temperature, a compass and other vehicle analytics; ‘Trainer,’ which documents driving times, distances and fuel consumption; ‘Reader,’ which will read out the latest posts on the users different social media sites and ‘Photo,’ which automatically takes pictures from inside the vehicle and posts them on social media.

The iBeetle was developed in conjunction with Apple, and will be available in both coupe and convertible in early 2014.

:/ couldn’t this have been done with just a USB port to connect the iPhone in the center console or other storage area? Doesn’t make spending the extra amount they will charge worthwhile.
