The 2013 Toyota RAV4 received an update for the new model year, and has just been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
For those wondering why the RAV4 isn’t a Top Safety Pick Plus, the compact crossover didn’t undergo the new small overlap frontal test. Regardless, the new RAV4 improves on the model it replaces, which got a score of Average on the roof strength test.

The 2013 RAV4 scored Good on the moderate overlap front, side impact, and roof strength tests. The new RAV4 has yet to be tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), but it is expected to do well considering the 2012 model received an overall four out of five star rating.
Powering the 2013 RAV4 is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 176 hp paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
