Infiniti has been enjoying strong success in the recent years, and its new president, Johan de Nysschen is looking towards to future to further strengthen the brand’s lineup.
That means a new flagship sedan is under consideration by the Japanese automaker, but don’t expect it to be a BMW 7-Series or Mercedes S-Class competitor. Though it would be natural for Infiniti to build its flagship sedan targeted at that market, the automaker has other plans. According to Johan de Nysschen, a flagship sedan is a given – but it won’t be a conventional luxury sedan. Infiniti hopes to bring a very upscale, emotional, and high-performance sedan that might be a different concept.
What that means is anyone’s guess. But Infiniti could be looking at the direction of the Porsche Panamera, a luxury sedan that bucks the trend of what BMW, Mercedes, and even Audi has to offer. More exciting however is the consideration of sharing the flagship sedan’s platform to make a high-performance coupe. That would mean sharing powertrains and platforms to have two range-topping models in coupe and sedan form.
One thing is for sure though, neither vehicle will be based on the Emerg-E concept which has been axed for quite some time now.
