Chrysler is now installing the same Uconnect 5.0 infotainment software in lower-trim levels of the Ram 1500 pickup truck as it began using in the Fiat 500L for Europe.

The change is significant because Chrysler’s Uconnect system is generally regarded as one of the simplest and best systems on the market today. Uconnect 5.0 is a scaled down version for the five-inch screens that are found in the 500L and in new, lower-end Ram 1500 trucks with more to join the list according to Automotive News.

What makes that change significant is that the smaller version won’t be based on the same software provided by QNX Software Systems, a subsidiary of BlackBerry. Instead, the Uconnect 5.0 system is Microsoft based.

That raises questions about whether or not users will enjoy the same ease of functionality currently found in Chrysler cars. Aside from that, the new system’s navigation will come from TomTom instead of Garmin.
