According to a new study from a social analytics company, the Toyota Prius was the most talked about hybrid vehicle online.
The Prius generated $14.5 million in total media value from January to April with the Honda Fit in second place with $4.5 million. Rounding off the top five was the Chevrolet Volt at $3.1 million, Tesla at $3 million, and the Honda Insight with $2.9 million.
The New York-based firm GenSent tracked several online venues including Facebook, YouTube, and Google for 10 different hybrid vehicles and measured each brand’s reach by placing a dollar value on the overall level of discussions occurring. In total, the Prius gathered nearly 86,000 mentions on Twitter – more than three times the amount of the other nine vehicles combined.
In addition, GenSent scored each topic as positive, negative, or neutral based on sentiment words such as good, bad, and love. Those were scored from -100 to 100 with the Nissan Leaf scoring highest among social media with a score of +48. The Fit was +46 while the Prius scored +45.
