If these leaked patent images are accurate, we could be looking at the production Volkswagen Taigun compact crossover.

Last year, the German automaker showed off the Taigun concept, which previewed an Up!-based compact crossover. It would seem like Volkswagen got the interest it wanted and has decided to green light the vehicle for production.

The images were leaked through China’s Auto Sohu, which claims they have been sourced from the Chinese patent office. If this is indeed the production Taigun, Volkswagen didn’t change much from the concept. The Taigun is expected to be powered by a 1.0-liter engine with both turbocharged and naturally aspirated options.

Currently VW’s smallest crossover offering in North America is the compact Tiguan and there’s no indication the Taigun would be sold here.
