It appears that the Audi R8 e-tron wasn’t the only car on the production chopping block for the German automaker; the Scorpion supercar project has also been given the axe.

According to sources speaking to Car and Driver, Audi has killed the supercar project since it has much bigger things to deal with at the present moment. Most recently, Audi’s R&D chief Wolfgang Dürheimer was replaced by Ulrich Hackenberg in hopes that the German automaker can push forward in competing with rivals BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Obviously when you’re an automaker with pressing issues to deal with and working to find new ways to innovate, a high-end exotic supercar gets pushed down the list of priorities. As successful as Audi’s recent years of sales have been, the German automaker won’t be content until it’s ahead of BMW and Mercedes, both of which are perceived to be more advanced technologically.
