Chevrolet Spark Sales Exceed Expections by 35 Percent

The Chevrolet Spark has enjoyed a successful first 12 months of sales, selling 26,869 units in America and exceeding General Motors‘ expectations by as much as 35 percent.

With a starting price of $12,995 including destination fee, the economical Spark is the first successful tiny car for the American automaker and comes with impressive features for its price such as Bluetooth and keyless entry. In total, Chevrolet sold 275,228 Sparks worldwide last year and has sold 720,000 globally since 2009 when it was first offered in South Korea. The Spark’s unique design was led by South Korean designers, where small cars are more popular.

U.S. sales of the Spark through May this year is at 14,484 units but is still outpaced by the Fiat 500 (17,562 units sold) and the Ford Fiesta (28,801 units sold). But comparing it to the Scion iQ, which sold only 1,919 during the same period, the Spark is enjoy success in a competitive market. It had the lowest average transaction price in the segment last month at $14,563, compared to the average segment transaction price of $19,038.

The 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV was recently announced to have a starting price of $27,495 and is also available in a low-mileage lease for as low as $199 a month for 36 months with $999 due at signing.
