The Nissan NV200 will live on as the “Taxi of Tomorrow” as the Taxi and Limousine Commission has amended the rules, allowing cab operators to purchase a hybrid alternative to the NV200 minivan, at least until Nissan comes out with its hybrid variant.
In May, a Manhattan Supreme Court judge ruled that city law requires cab operators to be given the option of purchasing a hybrid vehicle. This was despite the Bloomberg administration deciding two years ago that Nissan would be the sole supplier of the Taxi of Tomorrow.
Opponents have voiced that they’ll continue fighting against the Taxi of Tomorrow, saying that some fleet owners are worried about being restricted to a single model.
