Nissan has taken another big step in developing its NISMO division into a global performance brand, partnering with Williams – the company behind nine Formula 1 Constructors ‘ Championships.
Both Nissan and Williams Advanced Engineering will co-develop a new generation of high performance street cars, using the engineering firms expertise in, “aerodynamics, simulation and material science.”
The first cars Williams will be involved in developing is set to launch in 2014, likely beginning with the introduction of the NISMO GT-R, which will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show this Fall.

“Nismo is a brand built from over 30 years of racing experience and so it is fitting that we chose to work with a like-minded company such as Williams to develop the higher performance versions of our products,” said NISMO president Shoichi Miyatani. “Williams have a proven history of making racing technology benefit road cars, and we look forward to starting this relationship during such a period of intensive product development for Nismo.”
Williams founder and Team Principal commented on Nissan’s ambition for the NISMO brand stating that, “Both parties share a passion for racing and cutting edge technology and this collaboration will see us work closely together to develop cars that will be at the forefront of automotive technology.”
Nissan’s launch of NISMO as a global performance brand took its first big step earlier this year with the opening of a new global headquarters in Yokohama, Japan.
