The 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS is rumored to be the first U.S. model Mercedes to receive the German automaker’s new nine-speed automatic transmission.
Recently, Mercedes introduced its 9G-Tronic transmission that will be available in Europe on the E-350 BlueTec, which isn’t heading to the U.S. markets. The 2015 CLS Class, which is expected to go on sale next fall in the U.S., will be the debut of the 9G-Tronic in America.
According to an insider who spoke to Edmunds about the topic, the nine-speed will be made available on at least one CLS model at launch, with a slow rollout to the rest of the lineup. The 2015 CLS Class will also feature a redesign and is currently offered with a seven-speed automatic transmission.
The CLS won’t actually be the first 9-speed vehicle in the US, however, with the new Jeep Cherokee set to receive a 9-speed unit late this summer.
