Audi Compact Crossover Could Arrive in 2016 or 2017

Aiming to compete with BMW’s front-wheel drive compact crossover, Audi might soon offer a utility vehicle based on the A3 sedan (pictured).

Audi will soon launch a sedan version of the A3 in North America based on parent company Volkswagen’s “MQB” modular architecture, but plans are predictably broader for the diverse architecture.

A concept car is being developed by Audi’s engineers, and according to a report from Automotive News, the vehicle could offer seating for up to seven. The brand still hasn’t decided whether or not it will show the car during the Frankfurt Motor Show, which takes place in early September.

Internally, the car is being called the “elevated space vehicle,” although an official name hasn’t been cemented.
