BMW has unveiled its new Active Tourer Concept at the OutDoor Friedrichshafen fair. Aiming to show that compact dimensions can still offer plenty of interior space and utility the updated concept car wears the unimaginative name Concept Active Tourer (wait for it…) Outdoor.
Under the hood, the new Active Tourer concept has the same 1.5-liter, turbocharged three-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor for a total system output of 190 horsepower and 147 lb-ft of torque. Performance wise, those specs haven’t changed, but rather the German automaker wanted to show off the versatility of the concept’s interior. A transformable compartment located behind the rear seats can store up to two bicycles on built-in, retractable carriers.
That’s not all, as the entire interior now features easy-care, hard-wearing materials such as MoonWhite and MoonRock Grey leather that are built to last against outdoor equipment. In addition, BMW has joined forces with Tyrol to create a “Heart of the Alps” route guide that sets out exclusive premium routes in the Seefeld, Ötztal and Zillertal regions and offers a lead-in to enticing outdoor activities.
