Honda announced today that it will base its Formula 1 racing effort in Milton Keynes, U.K.
Joining efforts with McLaren, Honda will participate in the 2015 F1 racing season. As the company announced two months ago, McLaren will provide power units including the energy recovery system. The facility will serve as a the face of Honda’s F1 program and will maintain the power units developed at Honda’s research and development center in Tochigi, Japan.
Honda said the fact that McLaren is based in the U.K. played a major role in the decision to open a facility there, as did several F1 suppliers’ presence in the area. Operations will begin at the facility in June, 2014.
This isn’t the first time McLaren and Honda have collaborated on an F1 project. The two companies worked together from 1988 to 1992.
