The Mazda6 diesel race car didn’t just bring diesel racing back to Indianapolis Motor Speedway, it also captured the first victory by a diesel-powered race car at the famous track.

Yesterday, the Mazda6 SkyActiv-D race car captured a victory at the Brickyard Grand Prix with the number-70 SpeedSource Castrol Edge Mazda claiming the win in the GX class. Becoming the first diesel to ever win at Indy is a great feat for the new Mazda6 racer, further proving that the Japanese automaker isn’t just a one-trick pony with its rotary engines.
