Volkswagen will offer its new “Car-Net” system on several vehicles in the 2014 model year, the company said today.
Drivers with equipped vehicles will have access to new features including crash notification and roadside assistance. The system also offers remote vehicle access, boundary and speed alerts, enhanced points of interest for cars equipped with navigation and stolen vehicle assistance.
Through its OnStar system, General Motors has offered its customers many of those features for almsot two decades. Remote access is becoming increasingly common in cars, with many brands including GM, Hyundai, Nissan and many others offering smartphone apps for drivers to monitor their vehicles with.
Volkswagen will offer the system on the Beetle, Beetle Convertible, CC, Eos, Jetta, Passat, and Tiguan models.
