The Volkswagen Passat is turning 40 with the first delivery of the original B1 Passat happening on July 25, way back in 1973.

Seven generations of the Passat have been sold around the world and currently two variants are produced by the German automaker: one for the U.S. and China (as the New Midsize Sedan) and one for the rest of the world. The Passat has also spawned the CC variant, which is a stylish four-door coupe model that originally debuted at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show.
