The Kia hamsters will return to the television set, when a 60-second commercial debuts starring the 2014 Kia Soul.
The hamsters, which first debuted in 2009, have gone on a pretty generous diet and will debut minutes after Lady Gaga’s first-ever live performance of “Applause” during the MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday. The ad, titled “Totally Transformed,” will appear on over 33,000 movie screens nationwide starting August 30.
You will be able to view the add on Kia’s YouTube page prior to the MTV Video Music Awards on August 25.
“When the first Soul arrived on the scene, everyone at Kia believed we had a hit on our hands but we didn’t realize how big that hit was going to be, and our year-over-year success is a direct result of the hamster commercials entertaining the young and young-at-heart with their baggy clothes, excellent taste in music and slick dance moves,” said Michael Sprague, Kia Motor America’s executive vice president of marketing & communications.
“Now in its second generation, the Soul maintains its individualistic edge with a fresh take on its iconic design as well as a ‘Totally Transformed’ driving experience, and the hamsters have followed suit by getting fit and developing a new fashion sense that reflects the sophistication of the newly refined Soul.”
The 2014 Kia Soul is powered by either a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine with 130 horsepower or a 2.0-liter with 164 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. It will be on sale this fall.
