Nissan will have a new GT-R for the 2016 model year, although details about the new supercar killer are sketchy.
Past rumors suggest that Nissan is working on a hybrid drivetrain for the R36 generation. Those reports saw the car coming sometime in 2017 or 2018, but according to Motor Trend, the 2016 model year was confirmed by a Nissan representative. If the company continues its current product cadence from past generations, the car will probably arrive sometime in 2015.
Building the GT-R around a hybrid drivetrain would keep the car up to date compared to other high-end performance cars coming soon. Acura’s new NSX will be a hybrid, and the Porsche 918 Spyder is a plug-in hybrid. Ferrari’s new halo car, the La Ferrari, uses a regenerative hybrid system, and the McLaren P1 halo car is a plug-in hybrid.
