4. 2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Then again, for around $10,000 less, you could buy a Toyota Camry Hybrid. It doesn’t have the space, but there are plenty of advantages. It will be easier to park, easier on gas and easier on your bank account to begin with.

Official estimates put fuel consumption at 43 mpg in the city, 39 on the highway and 41 overall. As a mid-szie sedan, the Camry isn’t small, its just not a low-cost limousine.

My ’12 Passat TDI regularly returns 44-47mpg on longer highway trips. In-town driving is between 34-37 mpg. The EPA ratings on diesels are a joke – unrealistically low.

You can say that again. It’s nice that diesel drivers know they will get better than EPA miles, but it would be nice if the rest of the buying public knew it too.

Honda has built a hybrid? First they should build a reliable ignition. Who cares about the mileage if you are always getting towed?

As a 2012 passat TDI owner myself, high 40′s and no batteries required! ;-P

Honda ignition? You too? Mine never starts below freezing.

whatcha mean? The new Accord has an ignition problem?

Our 2010 Diesel Forester shows 5.6l/100 for the last 3,000km’s – not to be sneezed at !

vw tdi, on the highway i get a much better than 40mpg, more like 47mpg, combined i get 41mpg, this is an awesome car!

I’ve driven diesels for years (currently new Jetta TDI), but the mfgs. just don’t want to sell the ones my wife needs for car pool with a diesel. There are several I’d buy if offered with the same motor as in Italy. (or VW could sell the Touran here) Oddly, the car I have garaged at my house in Italy is NOT a diesel – old, low mileage Citroën AX I got for a song precisely due to having a gasoline engine when 80%+ of cars there are diesel.
