Toyota has confirmed that the Matrix will officially be discontinued after the 2013 model year.
The announcement has been expected for quite some time now, considering the compact hatchback’s sales have been struggling over recent years. Sales have been so weak, in fact, that the Japanese automaker doesn’t even include it as a separate vehicle in charts detailing individual vehicle unit sales.
The Toyota Matrix has been on the U.S. market for 10 years now and its most recent iteration was based on the hot-selling Corolla. With the Corolla get a thorough redesign, Toyota didn’t see a high enough demand for a hatchback model to warrant a new generation of Matrixes on the road.
