Like a papier-mâché coffee cup photos of the new Audi A3 cabriolet have leaked, landing not on your lap but instead on the vast expanses of the INTER-n3tz. Thankfully neither your groin nor the web have been scalded by this hot emission. Here’s the skinny on Audi’s latest compact drop-top.
The car, which is predictably based on the new A3 sedan, will officially be revealed in Frankfurt next week. To keep things simple, and more importantly lower the cost it features a cloth roof instead of a more complicated and heavy retractable hardtop.
Ahead of the firewall this cabriolet’s powertrains are expected to be identical to what’s under the standard A3’s bonnet. This includes an vertigo-inducing number of different TFSI gasoline and TDI diesel engines along with two transmission choices.

Most excitingly an S version of the car is expected to be available as well. Like the four-door S3 it will be powered by a 296 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine sending the good through a quattro all-wheel-drive system for maximum traction in all weather conditions.
The S3 Cabriolet is expected to blitz from zero to 100 km/h (62 miles an hour) in less than 5.5 seconds… probably significantly less, in fact.
The brand-new Audi A3 Cabriolet is expected to go on sale next year, but we’ll almost certainly have more details about it sooner than that, like, next week in fact, when it’s officially unveiled in Germany.
