The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation looking into stalling in the Ford Focus EV.
The office of defect investigations has received 12 customer complaints about the problem over the last five months, 11 of which claim that the vehicle shut down while driving. Of those 11, half say that the car was traveling faster than 30 mph when the stall occurred.
Most of the complaints indicate that the “stop safely now” light indicated on the dash, followed by the engine stalling.
If this problem is found to be widespread, the investigation may result in a recall of roughly 1,000 vehicles.
