Infiniti has announced a contest for Formula One fans to design the helmet worn by Sebastian Vettel at the U.S. Grand Prix.

Participants will be able to create and submit their designs directly from the competition’s website with the winning entry chosen by Vettel himself. The helmet will then be worn by the Formula One triple world champion during Friday’s practice sessions and Saturday’s qualifying session at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

In addition, the winner and a friend will enjoy a VIP weekend at the U.S. Grand Prix with the Japanese automaker, along with an opportunity of meeting Vettel himself. Applicants will also be able to download a helmet template and take to designing on paper if they wish. Infiniti will also allow entries to be designed in other software such as Photoshop. Entries must be received by 7:59 a.m. ET on Sunday, September 29 and judging will start the following day.

“The helmets I wear are very important to me, as each one has a special meaning or a connection with the race in question,” said Vettel. “Normally I work closely with my helmet designer to come up with a new design for every other race, and this is the first time I’ve given the fans the chance to do it for me. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!”

The U.S. Grand Prix will kick off on November 15, 2013.
