It may look like a crossover, but the Jaguar C-X17 Concept is actually a sedan.
Don’t rub your eyes. To clarify, the C-X17 concept will become a sedan.
Set to hit the market in 2016, Jaguar confirmed as much at the car’s debut on the eve of the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Believed to bear the name XS, it will be the first model based of the brand’s new adaptable aluminum architecture, which, consequently, could also be used to build a crossover. It will be a mid-size offering in the luxury market and will slot in below the current XF model in terms of size. As a result, it should give Jaguar the ability to compete with a variety of models, from the BMW 3 Series to the Mercedes E-Class.
With stunning design of little doubt, Jaguar is boasting impressive performance for its new sedan. A key reason is that aluminum chassis, which Jaguar says will weigh roughly 220 lbs less than a conventional competitor.
Jaguar was one of the very first automakers to offer an aluminum chassis in the full-size luxury segment with the XJ and now it intends to be the first to bring the weight-savings to the mid-size segment.
While Jaguar has yet to confirm as much, look for a a crossover model named the XQ or Q-Type to go on sale shortly after the sedan arrives.
