Curious as to how the Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R concept’s powertrain works?

In the video below, the Japanese automaker goes into detail on the interesting Yaris Hybrid-R, which will make its official debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Perhaps giving consumers an inside look at the future of Toyota’s hybrid technology for road vehicles, the Yaris Hybrid-R concept actually borrows the same technology found in Toyota’s TS030 Le Mans race car.

As a result, Toyota wants to show off the powertrain which offers 300 horsepower from a 1.6-liter turbo engine powering the front wheels, while a pair of electric motors (60 hp each) power the rear wheels, delivering a total of 420 horsepower. The result is a system that’s versatile enough for daily driving on city streets or taking your vehicle out onto the track. Could Toyota be on the verge of offering affordable performance in a hybrid vehicle?
