Partnerships are all over the automotive world, and it seems that Daimler wants to further entrench its tie up with Tesla.
“I told my guys, go back to Tesla and look for other opportunities,” said Bodo Uebber, Daimler’s chief financial officer. “We want to look for more cooperation.” Currently, Tesla supplies Daimler with batteries for its Smart EV as well as the new B-Class EV. “We could use more” from Tesla, Uebber added.
Daimler is currently launching a slew of smaller vehicles including the Mercedes CLA and GLA, and is already investigating new technologies for its next generation of compact vehicles that are due out in 2018.
This investigation appears to be the catalyst behind Daimler’s need to get in better with Tesla, hinting that more EVs and hybrids may be on the horizon from Mercedes-Benz.
