Could MINI diesel models be heading to America? The British automaker is mulling it over.

As the MINI brand gets ready to enter a new era with next-generation models, there’s a good possibility that MINI diesels could be heading to North America. According to MINI, diesel models account for 41 percent of the brand’s European sales, but on a global basis that number drops to 24 percent.

But the automaker believes that the “U.S. market is ready for diesel engines now and this is something we definitely have to consider also for MINI.”

The new-generation MINI will go on sale in spring in both Europe and the U.S., but full availability will probably be around summer. MINI is also considering pure EV models with a plug-in hybrid coming to the model lineup for sure.
