Volkswagen has confirmed that a Ducati-powered XL1 is in development and the sports car could get green lit for a limited production run.

A 1.2-liter, two-cylinder gasoline engine from Ducati is being fitted under the hood of the XL1, with the model likely being called the XLR. It will deliver around 187 hp at an impressive 10,750 rpm while 91 lb-ft of torque will be offered at 9,000 rpm.

Rumor has it that the Volkswagen XLR will make its public debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the same place where the XL1 made its unveiling earlier this year.
