Lotus has announced its latest addition to the automaker’s racing portfolio, the Lotus Elise S Cup R.
This will be the first time the mid-mounted, transverse 1.8-liter 2ZR-FE engine will be used in a Cup variant of the supercharged Elise S. It will feature a bespoke livery with an aerodynamic body kit, with its performance enhanced over the Elise S. The aero package features a front splitter, barge boards, winglets, rear diffuser, floor extensions and a rear wing while a motorsport-specific engine control module ups the power.
All that means the Lotus Elise S Cup R weighs in at a scant 2,037 lbs, but the modifications also assist in creating extra downforce while the adjustable dampers and springs helps reduce lap times by four seconds on a 3.1-mile lap over the standard Elise S.
The race car will be eligible for entry in the production class of the 2014 Lotus Cup series. It will be available in a selection of bespoke color and trim options courtesy of the Lotus Design team. Pricing was announced at around $63,000 not including taxes (£39,125 + VAT).
